Google INFO Summit

(This “classic” project is taking a break from the archives, low-res images and all!)

Momentum partnered with Google Ideas (now Jigsaw), Tribeca Film Festival, and the Council on Foreign Relations to create an event that would manifest their mission ”To utilize technology to fight back against illicit networks.”

The INFO Summit (Illicit Networks Forces in Opposition) was a three-day event bringing stakeholders from technology, engineering, government, and law enforcement together with survivors and perpetrators to find real solutions. The focus of this year’s event was to shed light on illicit networks dealing in drugs, arms, organs, and human trafficking.

My role was to create the physical experience design, with the hub of activity taking place on a 60-foot-wide presentation stage. The logo identity was already in place, so the 3d stage elements worked to complement the type’s bold, chiseled edges while a white and grey tonal palette allowed the look to shift based on stage lighting. The wrapping forms work to evoke “connectivity.”

The challenge, typical to most event spaces, is that we had created a clean, tech-forward, elegant look… that would be implemented in a baroque ballroom of a hotel. Ugh!

The “cheap and cheerful” solution to carve out a modern space within a traditional framework was to use white “accordion” fold paper partitions that allowed us to create temporary curved structures. These forms served as transitions to our stage and kiosk fabrications, were used as funneled pathways, and took accent lighting beautifully.
